Tamworth has received national recognition after the borough's We Are Tamworth programme won the prestigious MJ Award for Community Engagement. The award celebrates the programme's successin bringing people together, giving residents a genuine voice and supporting community-led projects that are making a real difference across the town.
What began as a series of "Honest Conversations" with local residents has grown into a movement that has helped secure almost £85,000 for community projects, delivered events such as the Kaleidoscope of Dreams festival and encouraged people to play an active role in shaping Tamworth's future. The award is a testament to the power of collaboration and highlights what can be achieved when residents, businesses, community groups and local organisations work together towards a shared goal.
A range of unit sizes are currently available within Ankerside Shopping Centre, with inclusive rents starting from just £15 per week (plus business rates, utilities and VAT where applicable).Available units range from approximately 223 sq ft to over 1,000 sq ft, providing options suitable for everything from small independent retailers and artisan producers through to larger commercial operations.
Flexible licence arrangements and break options are also available, helping businesses to test concepts and grow at a pace that works for them.
Tamworth Borough Council’s Dog Friendly Trail proved to be a huge success, bringing together residents and their four-legged companions as part of the new Dog Friendly Tamworth initiative. Led by local dog trainer and behaviourist Chelsie from Train with Chelsie, the event created a fun, welcoming atmosphere while promoting responsible dog ownership and community wellbeing. Following the positive response from attendees, Tamworth Borough Council looks forward to creating more community-focused events like this in the future.

The popular town centre pub has also been named CAMRA National Pub of the Year three times — in 2025, 2023 and 2022 — making it the only pub in the country to achieve the title on three occasions.

Last week’s We Are Staffordshire event in Tamworth was a fantastic success, bringing together ambassadors, stakeholders and businesses to celebrate the town’s heritage, regeneration and future ambitions. Attendees enjoyed an afternoon exploring Tamworth’s placemaking journey, hearing from key organisations including Tamworth Borough Council and South Staffordshire College, while discovering the town’s evolving vision for growth and investment. The guided walk-and-talk tour, including visits to Tamworth Castle and the award-winning Tamworth Tap, showcased the very best of the town’s culture, history and hospitality, leaving visitors with a real sense of excitement about Tamworth’s future.

TEDxTamworth 2026 proved to be another huge success, with this year’s inspiring theme of “Belonging” attracting audiences from across the region to Tamworth Assembly Rooms on 16 April. Speakers were selected from more than 300 applicants, delivering a powerful programme of talks exploring community, identity, resilience and connection. Applications are now open for TEDxTamworth 2027, which will explore the theme of age — from youth to later life, reinvention to longevity, identity to opportunity. The event will shine a spotlight on stories, ideas and innovations that challenge how we think about ageing, celebrating the idea that while age may shape us, it does not have to define us. Whether it’s starting something new later in life, changing direction mid-career or exploring the future of ageing itself, TEDxTamworth 2027 promises another thought-provoking and inspiring event.
